How I Create Social Media Content
Hey guys,
None of the expert advice I’m about to give you for free means anything unless you get over being camera shy.
Literally hundreds of people already see your face every day when you:
Work a shift at the shop or salon
Walk through the parking lot, aisles, and checkout lines of the grocery store
Pick up your kids from school in a sea of parents
So seriously, unless you really want to tell your friends for the hundredth time,
“Yeah, I just need to start posting then I’ll blow up!”
Stop blocking your wins, and just start recording.
But aaanyway….
Here Are
3 Questions I Always Ask Myself Before I Create Social Media Content
(This will explain why some of your Instagrams are lonely)
Who am I creating content for?”
Are you creating content to build a clientele?
Or to build an online presence for other barbers and cosmos to see?
These might sound the same, but potential clients will engage with very different content than other professionals like you.
When you decide who your ideal viewer is, don’t hop back and forth.
Why?
Because when you make content for too many audiences, the algorithm gets confused and just guesses who to put your content in front of.
What value does my content provide for them?
Are you teaching, inspiring, or entertaining?
People scroll away so easily these days when there isn’t some sort of clear value to watching a video.
On average, you have 3 seconds before they scroll, so tease the value quickly.
Bonus tip: Bad lighting and bad camera angles instantly give your videos low-quality vibes, no matter how beneficial the info is.
What are you wanting to do with the attention?
Do you just want to have clout or do you want to leverage the attention by getting paid through the platforms, brands, new clients, or simply all the above?
Creating content – at least for me – is about reaching the right people who need help growing in this industry.
Maybe for you, creating content is all about showing off your skills to convert the attention into clients.
Of course, there’s no right or wrong answer, but these are questions you have to answer yourself first so creating content can become easier.
Now You Have a Social Media Content Checklist … Now What?
Now that you know how to figure out your audience and plan your content, it’s time to start recording!
